AMD Ryzen and Nvidia GeForce team up in Asus gaming laptop

Asus is working with both AMD and Nvidia to build a high-end gaming laptop. Chinese online retailer JD.com has just listed the Asus FX95DD packing an AMD CPU with an Nvidia GPU.
JD dubs the laptop as the “Flying Fortress,” which combines the AMD Ryzen 7 3750 APUand the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card.

Asus is now ditching Intel processors and opting instead for AMD CPUs when it comes to gaming laptops.
The AMD Ryzen 7 3750H chip is part of the company’s Picasso line of mobile processors. It’s a quad-core, eight-thread unit that’s based on the existing Zen+ microarchitecture. It’s also an older model as it’s produced with the 12nm process instead of the 7nm process node of the latest AMD Ryzen 3000 processors.
The Ryzen 7 3750H runs with a 2.3GHz clock speed and a 4GHz boost clock. It has 6MB of l3 cache and has a 35W TDP (thermal design power).

Graphics card and display

As an APU -an AMD branded name-, the Ryzen 7 3750H packs a CPU and a GPU on a single die. It ships with Radeon Vega 10 integrated graphics, which makes the processor an attractive option for casual gamers.
The Radeon Vega 10 has a 1.4GHz boost, more than enough for casual gaming and daily tasks.
Additionally, it packs the Pascal-based Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card with 3GB dedicated visual memory. It fits more graphics-intensive games, albeit it won’t play AAA titles in ultra resolution or 4K displays.
The Asus gaming laptop gives users the option to choose which graphics card to use with each application. The integrated GPU will give a better battery life, while the GTX 1050 ensures better graphics performance.
As for the display, the Asus FX95DD ships with a 15.6-inch Full HD screen (1920 x 1080 resolution). It’s an IPS screen that delivers 45 percent NTSC color gamut coverage with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Memory and battery

The Asus FX95DD includes 8GB of DDR4-2400 memory, which you may expand to 32GB. As for storage, it packs a 512GB SSD.
The FX95DD is equipped with a three-cell Li-ion battery. According to the specs, it lasts about two to five hours, depending on use.
Other specs include ports. The laptop has one USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, and a 3mm microphone and headphone combo jack. It also has WiFi 802.11ac and a Bluetooth 5 connectivity.
Lastly, this gaming laptop is 26mm thick and weighs 2.2kg.
JD.com listed the Asus FX95DD for 5,798 yuan, which is about $866.89.
